Ponzio's reminded me of my uncle's very successful restaurant, Greene's in Chicago, where I grew up. My father and uncle came from Greece and their original name was Ougrinis. When I came to NJ, I was introduced to Ponzio's. I felt at home. We take my aunt to Ponzio's when she visits from D.C. She never lets us take her to another NJ restaurant. She always orders a steak and never finishes it. She takes home most of her meal and then buys the cheese rolls, bread and some sweets of course. My husband always laughes as we are loaded down with boxes and leftovers. However, the next day our treasured boxes reminds us of our very enjoyable evening. My aunt's visits are not as frequent, but now our children are able to visit Ponzio's on their own. |
